- How to get here :
Traveling from San José to Santa Teresa in Costa Rica offers several options, each with its advantages in terms of time, cost, and comfort. Here are the main options available:
By Car or 4×4
- Duration: About 5 to 6 hours.
- Details:
- You can rent a car (preferably a 4×4 due to unpaved roads and occasionally challenging conditions).
- From San José, drive to Puntarenas, where you’ll take a ferry across the Gulf of Nicoya to Paquera.
- Once in Paquera, drive about 1.5 hours to Santa Teresa via Tambor and Cobano.
- Cost: Around $20-30 USD for the ferry (including the car), plus vehicle rental and fuel costs.
By Bus and Ferry
- Duration: About 6 to 7 hours.
- Details:
- From San José, take a direct bus to Puntarenas (about 2 hours).
- Then, take the ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera (about 1.5 hours).
- In Paquera, catch another bus to Cobano, then a final bus to Santa Teresa.
